Architecture and interiors from 19th century in Bielsko-Biała, Poland | IN MY LENS

I was lucky enough to have lived for the last year in Bielsko-Biała, not a very big city near the mountains on the south-west of Poland. Before, I have barely heard of it and was utterly surprised to see that this city is nice, cosy, friendly and very pretty!
I was especially delighted with well preserved, undestroyed during the Second World War XIX-century townhouses' architecture and its interiors - stunning staircases, original molding, carved wooden doors, lanterns in the halls. Beside that, ceramic floorings in expressive shapes and colors, typical of the XIXth century and often in a very good shape.
The houses, apart from the art nouveau "Frog House", are eclectic. This style was popular in architecture at the turn of XIXth and XXth century and was a "style" combining historic styles: renaissance, baroque, classicism. The building I find the most beautiful is I suppose that of a public library at on of the main streets, 11 Listopada.  The famous nearby "Frog House" has a very interesting facade - we enter the building through a frog burrow (it is unfortunately neglected inside). At the corner of Cechowa and 11 Listopada streets there is a combo-house, occupying the space of all the block, with charming hidden court-yards and amazing staircases. Another interesting townhouse, on Barlickiego street, was unforunately harmed inside. There was a rubber flooring, along the stairs half of the wall is painted with an oil paint, totally unappropriate in this interior. There are still fantastic iron-wrought railings though, and a wooden kiosque at the entrance where a porter used to sit.

After this year I could move to Bielsko for a lifetime, if only I hadn't have all the friends and family in 3city. It can be the best place to live in Poland, a beautiful and nice city with good traffic solutions and all the services needed, close to the woods, close to the mountains, lots of interesting places to visit around, Cracow, Katowice, houses two times cheaper than in my city!

So, looking back at these pictures, I think that I will definately come back there some day :-)
